Randall Road Corridor Improvements

Randall Road Corridor Improvements

The McHenry County Division of Transportation (McDOT) identified the $90M Randall Road Improvements as one of the key projects needed to relieve congestion along this heavily traveled north/south corridor in the southeastern portion of the county. The 3.5-mile segment of Randall Road from County Line Road to Ackman Road exhibited deficiencies such as severe congestion, inconsistent access, safety and accident concerns, and the lack of bicycle/pedestrian facilities. TranSystems led the final design overseeing a team of eight other consultants. Major work tasks included evaluating the project’s original design in light of stakeholder objections; engaging stakeholder businesses and communities to assess needs and build consensus; creating detailed designs offering new solutions, including CFI and conventional intersections; conducting new economic and traffic analyses; and obtaining FHWA approval and funding of the revised intersection types and designs, which now included key elements providing for increased roadway capacity, improved business access and pedestrian safety and recreation.
