Berlin Station Roundabout

Berlin Station Roundabout

TranSystems was selected by the Delaware County Engineer’s Office as lead designer and engineer of record to design the widening and reconstruction of Berlin Station Road. After the project was split into two parts, Part 1 included the development of a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Berlin Station Road and Piatt Road.
After investigating several options, our firm designed a peanut-shaped roundabout which had the distinct benefit of minimizing right-of-way impacts to sensitive properties on opposite corners of the intersection. Part 1 of the project also included widening Berlin Station Road to provide a left turn lane directly out of the west leg of the roundabout for the Berlin High School entrance. In addition to coordinating vehicle access, TranSystems had to help manage the critical and challenging drainage design components of the project that had to restore existing conditions along the high school property and tie in multiple concurrent and future design projects to the north.
