1st and 2nd Bike Lanes

TranSystems implemented bike lanes on the 1st and 2nd Street one-way couplet connecting downtown with residential neighborhoods both east and West of downtown Wichita. These projects used the existing pavement section and converted three-lane roadways to 2-lane roadways with parking and bike lanes through a road diet. Traffic analysis and parking demand analysis were completed as part of the project to support the final recommended typical sections. Although initially identified as corridors for bike lane improvements through the Bicycle Master plan, the projects were taken before local District Advisory Boards and included a Public meeting for comment and to identify any specific public issues with the designs. Designs included treatments for connections to existing shared-use paths, left turn treatments, and route crossings of major roadways.
