Harbor Bridge Inspection

Corpus Christi, TX

The Harbor Bridge is a 57-span structure carrying six lanes of US 181 over the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and various local roads in Corpus Christi, TX. The structure was built in 1959 and is 5,818 feet long. There are thirty-seven prestressed concrete girder approach spans, fifteen welded plate girder spans, and five main steel truss spans. These main spans were the focus of TranSystems fracture critical inspection in April, 2021. Access to the structure was gained by the use of an Aspen Aerials A-62 Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle (UBIV), SPRAT and from the inspection catwalks. TranSystems inspection included ultrasonic testing on all ten fracture critical truss pins.
