- Title: Civil Engineer
- Alma Mater: Widener University
- Hobbies: Volunteering at MANNA, experimenting with food, watching Philadelphia team sports, spending time with family and friends
I chose to pursue a career as a Civil Engineer because…
The thing I love most about my job is…
The location. My commute is less than 30 minutes away from home. I also love the projects I get to work on and the opportunity to work on projects in other offices.
My favorite thing about TranSystems is…
The way the company strives to develop and implement DE&I actions. Also, the people I get to work with inside and outside of the Philadelphia office.
Since joining TranSystems…
I’ve gained experience with designing the various civil tasks of bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects. These included the roadway design, ESPC, TCP and SPMP. Pretty much everything except the actual design of the structure.
7:30 AM – Log on and put on some music
After I log into my computer and right before I start working, I put on some music. At that point I am in my own world as I get my work done. I love to surround myself with good vibes.
8:00 AM – Resume working on priority projects
I continue working on projects that I didn’t finish the previous day or I begin working on a new task depending on the order of priority. I am currently working on several bridge replacement projects which requires me to use OpenRoads Designer. I am still learning the ends and outs of the program.
9:00 AM – Attend weekly office meeting
I attend weekly office meeting to catch up with the latest and greatest on TranSystems news.
12:00 PM – Lunch with a Philly view
Some days I stop for lunch and eat by the window that faces the city of Philadelphia. Other days, I work through lunch when I have a good workflow going. Sometimes I don’t want to stop my momentum!
1:00 PM – Check-ins
I make sure to check in with my supervisor consistently and with anyone I am coordinating with on a project.
3:00 PM – Touch base with WTS & COMTO local chapters
I am part of WTS, which advocates for women in the transportation industry, and COMTO Philly, which works to provide opportunities for the advancement of minorities in the transportation industry in the Philadelphia area. With the new year, most events are in the beginning stages. There are some exciting events happening in the near future!
4:00 PM – Attend DAC meeting
I am on the leadership team for the Diversity Action Council (DAC). At these meetings, I get the opportunity to surround myself with amazing people. I am looking forward to the many changes the DAC has for our company, as well as the opportunities being created and presented for an inclusive work environment. I highly encourage others to get involved with the DAC.
4:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Log off
I usually log off around 4:30 pm. However, on certain projects, I sometimes work past my usual time. After work, I check in with my family and friends. Depending on the conversation or who I am speaking with helps determine if a glass of wine is required.
