- Title: Civil Engineer
- Alma Mater: University of Missouri-Kansas City
- Hobbies: I like working out, hanging out with my family, and have recently taken up gardening.
I chose to pursue a career in Civil Engineering because…
I enjoyed all of the math and science classes I took in high school, so when applying to college, civil engineering stood out to me.
The thing I love most about my job is…
Getting to work on many different projects at once, such as traffic safety studies and signing and pavement marking projects. I love constantly learning new things.
My favorite thing about TranSystems is…
The people that I work with are my favorite thing about TranSystems. They’re friendly and always willing to help!
Since joining TranSystems…
I’ve gained more real world experience by getting the opportunity to work on many different projects with many different teams. When I started at TranSystems I was an intern and only had the basic knowledge any engineering student would have.
7:45 AM – Load Files, and Check Emails and IMs
The first thing I do in the morning is load up all of the files that I’ll be working with that day. While the files load, I check any emails and IMs.
8:00 AM – Work on KDOT Signing Projects
After all of my files have loaded and my email has been checked, I get to work. Currently I am working on two Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Signing projects. I have been spending the majority of my time on the Harvey County, KS project.
9:00 AM – Daily Meeting with Design Team
Every morning at 9 we have a virtual meeting in which we check in, make sure that everyone has an ample workload, and discuss any issues at hand.
10:00 AM – Check in with Traffic Crew
Around this time each day, I try and check in with the traffic crew. Whether that be Chris Roberts or Jim Stanek (sometimes both), we make sure we’re all on the same page in regards to the projects we’re working on.
12:00 PM – Work through Lunch
I normally work through lunch time. But if I’m not too busy, I’ll make something quick in the kitchen and eat at my desk.
1:30 PM – Attend Meetings
At this point in the day, I typically attend meetings and/or catch up on any outstanding tasks.
3:30 PM – End of Day Re-cap
This is usually when I go over everything that I got done for the day, and make a check list of what needs to be done for the next day. I usually coordinate with the team members that I’m working on projects with in order to make sure we’re all on the same page.
4:30 PM – Log Off
After work I like to work out and make dinner! If it’s a really nice day out, I’ll go for a bike ride around my neighborhood.
