Sagamore Bridge Inspection

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Bourne, MA

TranSystems performed a routine and fracture critical member inspection of the Sagamore Highway Bridge, which carries MA Route 6 over the Cape Cod Canal. This bridge provides four 10 foot travel lanes and one sidewalk and features a three-span continuous arched truss main unit, with no approach spans, for a total length of 1,408 feet. The bridge main span provides 135 feet of vertical clearance for navigation above the canal. For inspection access, TranSystems used a combination of Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) technical rope access, protected climbing, and lift equipment. This inspection methodology allowed us to minimize lane closures during each inspection to a 4-hour, 1-lane rolling closure, which maintained traffic throughout our inspections on this heavily travelled route.
