TranSystems was selected by CenterPoint Properties to develop 30% plans and drawings for an 800-acre intermodal facility for Union Pacific Railroad in Joliet, IL. The intermodal yard is the anchor hub for the CenterPoint Intermodal Center – Joliet, a 3,600-acre inland port and industrial park. After 30% plans were completed, TranSystems was selected as design engineering on a design-build contract working for Ragnar Benson and Union Pacific Railroad. The new state-of-the-art terminal is capable of handling two million lifts per year using wide span crane technology. The terminal has four conventional process tracks, eight process tracks under wide span cranes, and 30 support tracks.
