Inland Port Dillon
South Carolina Ports Authority
Dillon, SC
The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) developed its second inland port in Dillon, SC. The 40-acre rubber-tire gantry crane intermodal terminal facility is served by CSX, operated by SCPA, and includes two 5,000-ft. working tracks. The terminal now has a capacity of nearly 200,000 TEU per year (approximately 116,000 lifts annually) with the initial terminal build-out accommodating 45,000 lifts annually. This new facility includes a 5,000 sq. ft. operations building, 4,500 sq. ft. vehicle maintenance building, six-bay wash rack, entry and exit canopies, security booth, and driver assistance booth.
TranSystems was contracted by SCPA to prepare preliminary design and engineering documents for procurement of a design-build contractor to build the South Carolina Inland Port Dillon. TranSystems also held roles in the field, including construction coordination and observation, ensuring safety standards were incorporated, quality assurance, contract administration, schedule control, permit compliance, daily reports, and erosion control monitoring. The project had an aggressive schedule with a 16-month delivery date from design through construction.
