Sustainable Design

Energy and natural resource conservation has emerged as a critical issue from the standpoint of preserving the environment, controlling operational costs, as well as maintaining a positive public image. TranSystems promotes the use of sustainable design and energy efficiency for all projects, educates owners on how a project is impacted, and continually researches opportunities to incorporate sustainability into applicable design solutions.

TranSystems strives to achieve the highest and best use of our environmental resources while meeting project budgetary goals and operational needs. Our staff is well-educated in sustainable design and current with innovation in sustainable technology and products. Our staff’s approach for meeting sustainability goals is to involve clients, designers, contractors, suppliers and commissioning consultants in the design process from the initial stages of the conceptual design to the end of construction. This enables the design to evolve from discussions that combine functionality with sustainability. The end result is an economical sustainable project that meets the client’s goals.

We employ a number of LEED professionals on our team who provide up-to-date practices for infrastructure design, and consider sustainable concepts such as: recycled asphalt and aggregates; infiltration basins; "green points" which reduce urban heat islands and soften hardscape; permeable pavements especially for parking lanes; green alley program; creation of green parkways and medians; street lighting luminaire replacements with energy efficient lighting; trees meeting requirements of the Bureau of Forestry; areas for native grasses and perennials; rain gardens compatible with adjacent developments; compatibility of bicycle, transit and pedestrian facilities; bus lane/drop off improvements; measures to reduce congestion at intersections; and areas for native grasses and perennials, for a variety of project types. Across the transportation sectors, we provide services in alternative fuels, stormwater, distribution, carbon footprint, and facility and roadway design.

TranSystems public and private sector clients include: local, state, and federal government agencies and municipalities; the military, manufacturers and distributors, airports and rental car companies, transit authorities, railroads, ports, and energy companies.
