87th Street at I-35 Interchange

I-35 in Johnson County, KS, serves nearly 170,000 vehicles per day, including many rush hour commuters. An influx of new businesses increased traffic on 87th St. to nearly 75,000. U.S. 69, which intersects 87th Street nearby, carries another 75,000. TranSystems handled all traffic-related services, ITS elements, signaling and signage for an upgraded interchange at I-35 and 87th Street. Micro simulation modeling was used to refine conceptual geometry for the single-point diamond interchange, one of the first in the area. Primary travel lanes on 87th Street have been increased from four to six.
