Rockford Commuter Rail Analysis

Northern Illinois Commuter Transportation Initiative, Rockford, Illinois

NICRI, a consortium of the cities of Rockford and Belvidere, the Rockford Mass Transit District, and Growth Dimensions selected TranSystems to study the feasibility of developing a proposed commuter rail line along the Union Pacific railroad from the end of the existing Metra Commuter Rail service to Rockford. The study developed ridership projections, estimates of infrastructure and equipment costs, station locations, operating scenarios, anticipated operating costs, and outlined a program plan outlining the next phases for the project including funding source identification, railroad partnering benefits, and joint development opportunities.
