Sheffield Junction Flyover

Kansas City Terminal Railway Company, Kansas City, Missouri

KCT, owned by UP, KCS, BNSF, Gateway Western (GW), Illinois Missouri Railway Line (IMRL), and Norfolk Southern (NS), turned to TranSystems to determine the feasibility of constructing a rail bridge at the Junction and help secure financing. TranSystems then performed design and construction engineering despite constraints necessitating both added value and innovation. The 3.2-mile flyover now carries two mainline tracks over the bottleneck; travel by the 250 trains which go through the junction daily remained uninterrupted during construction.
