Cleveland LRT Tunnel - Kingsbury Tunnels

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, Cleveland, Ohio

TranSystems developed plans and specifications to replace a key light-rail junction between the heavy-rail rapid transit "Red" line and the light-rail transit "Green-Blue" lines. The work included track relocation plans; new turnouts; removal of a life-expired grade separation structure; design of a new rail viaduct; new retaining walls; traction power and signal system modifications; a detailed phasing plan; and full site survey. Relocating a railroad signals bungalow was one of the biggest challenges in the project. Planners also were able to work with the railroad to eliminate the need for a tunnel that had been in place since the early 1900s.
