San Antonio Consolidated Car Rental Facility Opens Its Doors
At 12:01 a.m. on January 17th, the brand-new, state of the art $135 million San Antonio Consolidated Rental Car Facility opened its doors to travelers. Housing nine rental car companies and a quick turnaround area for fueling, washing and maintenance, the new 13-acre, 227,000 square foot project replaces a well-used, existing short-term public parking garage with the capacity for 2,600 ready/return rental car spaces and 1,200 public parking spaces configured on six different floors.

The new facility provides a higher level of customer service and operational efficiency for both rental car customers and short-term public parking as well as improved airport operations. It also offers travelers the convenience of accessing rental cars in one centralized on-site location with direct access for pedestrians through a skybridge, eliminating the need for shuttles to take passengers to their rental car locations.

The facility also features aesthetics such as detailed lighting and public art installations celebrating 200 years of San Antonio history and focusing on the airport’s culture, architecture, and role in aviation history.  

TranSystems provided demand level analysis, programming, design guideline development, security design, simulation/modeling and full architectural and engineering services for design and construction.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and BNSF Railway (BNSF) partnered to replace a BNSF bridge over the busy Interstate 235. The project was bid by ODOT as part of its largest construction package in history, at a contract bid price of $81 million, of which the truss bridge comprised $17.5 million. The contract time for the interchange project was 850 calendar days, which was reduced to 700 days using A+B bidding. Careful planning and modifying of construction sequences by the contractor further reduced the schedule to 550 days.
