TranSystems Wins ACEC's Engineering Excellence Special Achievement Award
TranSystems recently announced that its Schaumburg, IL, office won a Special Achievement Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois’ Thirty-Ninth Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Competition. The award was given for the firm’s project "Sheridan Road Reconstruction and Enhancement" which was designed for the Village of Wilmette and completed in partnership with DLK Civic Design and Great Lakes Soil & Environmental Consultants.

Sheridan Road is known for its historic landmarks, mature tree canopy, beautiful lakefront homes and untouched character. During the design, the Village of Wilmette hoped to achieve the following goals:
  • Reduce accidents and improve safety
  • Improve roadway quality
  • Replace aging utilities
  • Separate combined drainage system
  • Improve pedestrian friendliness
  • Add bicycle facilities
  • Build streetscape enhancements and
  • Protect the trees to preserve the beauty of corridor

"Through the combined efforts of everyone involved these goals were met!" stated Todd S. Bright, Vice President, TranSystems. "Most important, the lengthy and disruptive construction phase of the project was executed with minimal inconvenience to the residents and businesses along Sheridan Road. In the end, the project was delivered on time and under budget, which was welcome news to those impacted by the project, including Village leaders and the thousands of pedestrians, bicyclists and commuters who travel Sheridan Road each day."

Fifty-five Illinois firms were recognized before an audience of over 250 engineers, clients and government officials at an Awards Luncheon held February 12, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza, Springfield, Ill. The competition recognizes outstanding projects designed by private practice engineering firms from the State of Illinois. Special Achievement Awards are given for projects "worthy of special recognition of the engineer and the owner/client for achieving engineering excellence."
