Anderson Bridge Track Rehabilitation

This engineering study determined design alternatives the MBTA's rehabilitation of the direct rail fixation system for the Savin Hill Flyover and Anderson Bridge on the South Shore Red Line Extension. The problem centered around the degradation of the concrete plinth holding the direct rail fixation system. Because of the extent and nature of the problem, repairs would not work. The project team developed a method of construction utilizing panellized temporary bridging, allowing the contractor to work on the bridge on weekends and MBTA to maintain normal operations during the week. The design solution included track and a new egg-type direct rail fixation system.
