Commuter Rail Systems

Commuter rail service gets commuters from here to there quickly, while minimizing auto emissions and travel costs. Commuter rail is a public transit mode particularly attractive for longer distance trips – and has demonstrated excellent ability to attract auto drivers out of their cars. Because the majority of commuter rail systems operate on tracks shared with freight trains, TranSystems is in a particularly good position to devise workable solutions. Our decades of work on freight railroad infrastructure and operations provides us the experience and contacts to generate workable designs and credible cost estimates for commuter rail systems. We are frequently able to develop a lower cost solution and “best-fit” because of our understanding of the minimum needs of freight railroads.

TranSystems’ substantial commuter rail experience includes passenger rail operations and analysis; security and safety planning; facilities planning and design; alternatives analysis, and economic feasibility. Our staff has a range of experience including feasibility and alternatives analysis, design engineering, construction management, service planning, and market research. TranSystems’ substantial and growing freight railroad engineering practice provides critical supportive synergies.
