Prairie Star Parkway

City of Lenexa, KS

Project Summary

In the rapidly expanding City of Lenexa, KS, Prairie Star Parkway is a new east-west arterial connecting high-end residential estates and commercial business districts. The parkway crosses a creek, wetlands, endangered species habitat and floodplain, as well as a railroad and a Kansas State Superfund hazardous waste site. TranSystems performed the alignment study, environmental assessment, and final roadway and bridge design for the 1.8-mile, four-lane divided roadway, including twin, 745-foot bridges over the creek and railroad, and intersection with the future Ridgeview Road and other residential streets. Aesthetic enhancement and special lighting of the twin, four-span bridges (both superstructure and substructure) crossing the bike-path ensured a pleasing view from above and below.
