Margaret Hunt Bridge Fracture Critical Inspection

Texas DOT

Project Summary

A 1,957-ft. signature cable-stayed structure, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge carries six lanes of State Spur 366 (Woodall Rodgers Freeway) over the Trinity River in Dallas County, Texas. TranSystems was selected, as part of a statewide fracture critical member inspection contract, to provide a fracture critical and special member inspection of the structure in accordance with the Texas Department of Transportation “Bridge Inspection Manual.” Since the only access point was the aviation beacon hatch at the top of the arch, access to the bridge could only be achieved through rope techniques performed by SPRAT-certified bridge engineers. The statewide project involves various structure types with an emphasis on fatigue prone details.
