ConocoPhillips Ferndale Track Design

ConocoPhillips, Ferndale, Washington

ConocoPhillips Ferndale refinery planned to construct a new coke unit and ship coke by rail via the BNSF. TranSystems first prepared a study analyzing alternatives for the substantial supporting rail infrastructure required. This project built on and updated the report to determine the preferred option. The effort involved data collection, surveying, rail operations planning, conceptual level design and budgetary cost estimating to -20%/+40% level accuracy. Planning also considered BNSF’s shift away from storing customer’s cars, which would require additional storage yard capacity.
