Shortlines and Regional Carriers

Though many shortlines and regional carriers are relatively small in terms of revenue, people and number of locomotives or track miles, their needs are similar to the Class I railroads and fall under many of the same federal guidelines.

The shortline railroads are an entrepreneurial group of men and women who have assumed branch lines linked to the Class I railroad and turned them into a viable feeder network for our nation’s transportation system. These entities operate under the same federal guidelines as a Class I, for instance, they must inspect their bridges, track, and equipment and then make the necessary repairs to their infrastructure. The shortline railroads need a partner who understands their uniqueness and requires the same professional services.

TranSystems’ staff realizes that a railroad supplier is needed on occasion and is poised to meet that need with not only professional engineering but advice from many experienced railroad operators from across the United States who possess individual tenure, often times in excess of 20 years. This basic working knowledge of the day-to-day railroad operation, combined with engineering certifications in many specific areas such as operations, maintenance, planning, track and bridge inspection, design and related repair, makes TranSystems uniquely qualified to provide tailored services to the shortlines and regional carriers.
