Yard Operations Modeling

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, Pasadena, Texas

In the transportation and logistics community, modeling has traditionally been used by freight carriers to plan fleet movements and crew scheduling. However, their customers are recognizing the value of simulation for their own planning to make best use of scheduled freight service. For this project, a detailed model representing the rail traffic flow linking production, Storage-in-Transit Yards, and arriving/departing trains was used to plan optimal yard operations. Read a White Paper describing both railroad and customer use of simulation in the Resource Center.
