Rail Yard Preliminary Engineering Analysis

ExxonMobil Chemical Company, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Business leaders at the company wanted to evaluate the feasibility of adding rail yards for Storage in Transit (SIT) plastic pellet storage at two of the company's existing chemical plants in Baton Rouge. The goal: to determine whether constructing the new yards could be efficiently and economically performed. Initial concepts called for developing a total of 40 acres at the two sites, accommodating 433 rail cars at one facility and 263 cars at the other. TranSystems conducted an operational analysis that involved evaluating existing rail operations and track adjacent to the proposed facilities, an environmental assessment, a hydraulic analysis, and an analysis of all existing utilities.
