Abo Canyon, New Mexico

BNSF Railway, Ft. Worth, Texas

Native Americans who lived more than a century ago in what is now New Mexico used Abo Canyon as an important trade route to the Rio Grande Valley. Today, an average of 70 trains a day follow a single track along the same route. Demand for freight transit through Abo Canyon far exceeds that volume, so the BNSF planned to add a second alignment of track within the existing right-of-way. TranSystems managed construction on the project, assisting with the bid package and technical specifications for the project, conducting pre-bid and progress meetings, coordinating the work with the contractors and making recommendations back to the railroad. TranSystems also provided construction survey support.
