KCS Coburg Transload Facility

Kansas City Southern Railway Company, Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City Southern (KCS) owned a valuable piece of downtown property that was being used as an intermodal transfer station to load plastic pellets from rail cars into dry-bulk truck trailers. In an effort to make better use of the real estate, the company sought to move the transfer facility to an unused section of its Coburg Yard in another part of the city. TranSystems provided design and construction management for the relocation of the transload facility from downtown Kansas City to an unused section of Coburg Yard. The project involved realignment of existing trackage, construction of new roads, and relocation of truck weighing and parking facilities.
