Argentine Connection

Kansas City Terminal Railway Company, Kansas City, Kansas

KCT, a consortium of five railroads that operate common trackage in the Kansas City area, knew it had to increase the Argentine junction's efficiency but for years lacked the funding and design approach to make it a reality. Longtime partner TranSystems came forward with solutions for both. The groundbreaking proposal: Create the world's largest rail flyover and finance it with a creative bond package that would set a precedent for future rail projects. The plan would eliminate the choke point, triple train speeds, shorten schedules and require no public money. TranSystems orchestrated the finance package with one hand while it designed and managed the 18-month project with the other.
