Grade Separations/Flyovers

Achieved by elevating railroad tracks over an existing roadway or rail line, grade separations and flyovers offer benefits to railroads and communities alike by offering increased safety, improved efficiency, and enhanced flow of train and/or car traffic. Raising the rail above the roadway – grade separations often result in a reduction in train/car conflicts and the elimination of train whistles on that line creating improvements in safety and quality of life for the people in the surrounding community. While flyovers are typically erected in a rail yard, they still result in many of the same benefits including elimination of choke points, which leads to increased train speeds above the yard for more efficient train movements.
TranSystems has been at the forefront of design and construction of these structures providing design, program management, and construction inspection and management for railroads and municipalities. Our design and management efforts have been recognized by industry organizations such as the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Public Works Association, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, and the American Concrete Institute.
