Aircraft Maintenance Hangars

NAVFAC Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia

When inadequate hangar facilities at Chambers Field needed replacement, TranSystems was retained based on the firm's extensive experience. The team’s Functional Analysis Concept Development revealed shortcomings in the current criteria; TranSystems later wrote the new design criteria for Type I and II Aircraft Maintenance Hangars. This design involved a 3,608-square-meter fixed-wing aircraft maintenance hangar to house E-2C "Hawkeye" airborne surveillance aircraft and a 7,215-square-meter helicopter hangar for H2 and HH 60 helicopters. Both included clear-span maintenance bays, shop facilities, pilot briefing areas, and administration.
